Florida is home to many beautiful beaches, from Key West to Palm Beach and Captiva Island; but, unfortunately most of them are overcrowded with locals and tourists alike. Still, the Sunshine State does offer a few hidden gems that are lesser known than most of its beaches. Whether you’re a local or visiting Florida for the first time, it’s worth taking a trip to what is considered one of the state’s best (and relatively secret) beaches – Delray Beach.

Located in South Florida, Delray Beach is one of the lesser crowded destinations of the state mainly because it is set right in the middle of two very popular hot spots: Palm Beach to the north and Fort Lauderdale to the south. But just because it’s not as popular as other beaches, doesn’t mean it doesn’t get its fair share of visitors. According to Travelchannel.com, Delray Beach sees about a 1 million visitors a year. Also known as Sandoway Park, this 2-mile-stretch coast is beautiful, offering preserved dunes and plenty of white sand and ocean to enjoy.

Visitors to Delray Beach will also enjoy exploring the town. After some fun in the sun, vacationers can enjoy fine dining and shopping. This quaint beachside town offers many art galleries, shops, and boutiques. After a bite to eat and a little window shopping, you can play tennis at the Delray Beach Tennis Center or explore the historic Colony Hotel. And if you happen to visit the area at the right time, you might get to enjoy the annual Delray Beach Garlic Festival, too; the next festival is scheduled for February 7-9, 2014.
